Mass Deportation, Detention, and ICE: How We Got Here. What We Can Do

Something is wrong with our immigration system—and deep down, Americans know it.  In a speech described as “powerful,” “informative,” “lucid,” and “healing,” Kari Hong draws on decades of experience and research to show how we got here—and how we can change course.  It offers eight concrete, practical reforms rooted in earlier principles and adapted to today, insisting that meaningful change is not only possible, but necessary, to rebuild an orderly, fair, economically-rational immigration system and to renew democracy.

Primary Election Get Out The Vote Phone Bank

The June 2nd Primary Election is right around the corner, and we need your help reaching voters across Missoula County.

We’ll be calling and texting voters to remind them to cast their ballots and ensure every voice is heard in the primary. We’ll also direct voters to our primary candidate page on our website, where they can learn more about the candidates and review the questionnaires completed by legislative candidates in HD 92, 93, & 94.

Strong participation in the June primary helps build momentum for November. That’s why we’re working to keep Democrats engaged and voting in every election.

We have two opportunities to volunteer:

In-Person Phonebank
Where: Goodworks Ventures, 129 W Alder St
When: Sunday, May 31st, 2pm-5pm

Virtual Phonebank

Where: Zoom
When: Monday, June 1st, 4pm-7 pm
Volunteers will need access to both a phone and a computer for phonebanking and texting.

Whether you can join for an hour or the full shift, your time will make a real difference in helping voters stay connected and informed.

More volunteers means more voters contacted. Please email allison@montanademocrats.org and sign up to volunteer today.

Canvass Day: Medicaid & SNAP Outreach

Canvass Day: Medicaid & SNAP Outreach

  • University of Montana Student Family Housing (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Why We’re Canvassing

Across Missoula, families rely on Medicaid and SNAP to stay healthy and put food on the table. Proposed work requirements could put essential benefits at risk for many in our community. That’s why we’re heading directly to our neighbors to share accurate information, listen to concerns, and make sure people understand what’s at stake.

These changes affect more than just the people who use these programs. They add expensive red tape, wasting taxpayer money on new paperwork and administrators instead of healthcare and food assistance. Many people using Medicaid are already working, caring for kids or parents, or going to school and could lose coverage simply because they don’t have time to reapply quickly. In rural Montana, these cuts put local hospitals and clinics at risk of closing.

This canvass is about connection, education, and protecting access to basic needs programs that keep our community strong.

Canvassing Dates

  • Sunday, March 1 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
    Missoula Westside Neighborhood

  • Sunday, March 15 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
    University Student Family Housing

  • Sunday, March 29 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
    East Missoula

Volunteer Training

Friday, February 27 | 5:30 – 6:30 PM

We’ll cover:

  • The impacts of proposed work requirements

  • Our outreach goals

  • The canvassing script and materials

  • Tips for having positive, productive conversations

  • Q&A to make sure you feel confident and prepared

Whether you’re brand new or experienced, this training will set you up for success.

Never Knocked on a Door Before? Perfect.

You do not need prior canvassing experience to participate. We welcome first-time volunteers and will make sure you feel supported every step of the way.
